How can I tell if an ftp download is still working?
The ftp client program has a useful feature called Hash, which when turned on, prints a bunch of ##### to the screen during the download, 1 # for each 1KB download.

Just issue the 'hash' command at the ftp prompt, the same way that you issue the 'bin' command.
